What to Do When You’re Burnt Out but Still Struggling to Rest and Recalibrate

Burnout isn’t just physical exhaustion—it’s a full-body, mind, and spirit signal that something is out of alignment. Recently, I had a dream that highlighted the essence of burnout and inspired me to reconnect with rest, recalibration, and deep self-care.
In the dream, I was surrounded by people seeking herbs for healing, specifically my formula for throat chakra tea. My mason jars, which should have been full of herbs, were empty or broken. I kept thinking, “Where’s the peppermint?” but couldn’t seem to find it. When I woke up, I realized that my dream was a reflection of my own depleted state and my neglect of tools that could restore me.
This dream reminded me that burnout isn’t just about being tired—it’s about an imbalance in energy, emotions, and beliefs. It’s about the stories we carry, like the one that says it’s not safe to rest. By reconnecting with spiritual practices, we can release these beliefs and step into a place of healing.

Burnout as a Spiritual Signal
Burnout often points to an imbalance in the solar plexus chakra—the energy center that governs our personal power, boundaries, and self-worth. When we push ourselves too hard, this chakra can become depleted, leaving us feeling powerless, overwhelmed, and stuck in a cycle of “doing” rather than “being.”
But burnout doesn’t stop there. It can ripple into other chakras:
The Root Chakra: This energy center governs safety and grounding. Burnout can trigger fear and scarcity, making rest feel unsafe or unproductive.
The Throat Chakra: This governs self-expression and asking for help. Burnout can block our ability to say, “I need rest,” or communicate our boundaries.
According to the work of Louise Hay, burnout is often tied to deep emotional beliefs about worthiness. It can manifest from feelings of inadequacy, people-pleasing, or the belief that you must earn rest. Spiritually, this is a call to rewrite the narrative—to affirm that rest is not only safe but necessary for growth and healing.
Creating a Sacred Space for Rest and Recalibration
Before diving into rituals or self-care practices, it’s essential to create an environment that supports deep rest and intentional healing. The space around you has a profound impact on your energy, emotions, and ability to recharge.
Here’s how to transform your space into a sacred sanctuary for rest:
1. Physically Cleanse Your Space
A cluttered space can reflect or amplify a cluttered mind. Take a few moments to tidy up and remove anything that feels heavy or distracting.
Change your sheets to fresh, soft linens for a sense of renewal.
Lay out clean, comfortable clothes to wear after your rituals.
Lightly dust or organize items that bring calmness, like books or crystals.
2. Energetically Clear Your Space
Stagnant energy can linger in spaces, especially if they’ve been filled with stress or busyness.
Smudge or Diffuse: Use sage, palo santo, or essential oils like lavender or peppermint to energetically clear the space. As you do this, repeat the affirmation,
“I release all stagnant energy and welcome peace, clarity, and restoration.”
Open Windows: Let fresh air circulate to move stagnant energy out.
3. Add Comfort and Ambiance
Set the tone for relaxation with intentional touches:
Light a candle with a soothing scent like vanilla, lavender, or eucalyptus.
Place soft blankets and pillows nearby to cocoon yourself in comfort.
Dim the lights or use warm, low lighting to create a peaceful atmosphere.
Play gentle music or nature sounds to ground yourself.
4. Set an Intention for the Space
Before you rest or begin your rituals, speak an intention aloud. Something like:
“This space is sacred. It is my sanctuary for healing, rest, and renewal. I am safe here.”

Rituals to Heal Burnout and Realign Your Energy
Once your space feels sacred and supportive, you can move into rituals that nurture your spirit and release burnout. Inspired by my dream, here’s a ritual I designed to bring clarity and deep restoration.
Peppermint Tea and Bath Ritual
This ritual combines the grounding and clearing properties of peppermint with self-care to help release stress, realign your chakras, and remind you that rest is safe.
Peppermint Tea Ritual for Clarity and Refreshment
1. Brew Your Tea: Use peppermint for its cooling, clarifying properties.
2. Set an Intention: As you hold your cup, close your eyes and whisper or think,
“I allow this tea to cleanse, heal, and refresh me inside and out.”
3. Visualize Healing: Imagine the steam wrapping around you, clearing away heaviness and stuck beliefs. With each sip, feel clarity, peace, and power entering your body.
Herbal Bath for Restoration
1. Prepare Your Bath:
Add dried peppermint, lavender, or chamomile to warm water.
Include a few drops of essential oil (diluted in a carrier oil) for added refreshment.
Toss in some Himalayan or Epsom salt to ground and detoxify.
2. Soak with Intention: As you sink into the water, imagine it pulling away tension and negativity from your chakras. Visualize each energy center filling with light, especially your root, solar plexus, and throat chakras.
3. Affirm: Repeat to yourself,
“I release all that weighs me down and welcome balance, clarity, and ease.”
Why Rituals and Sacred Spaces Work
Chakras store energy, including beliefs and emotions. The limiting belief that rest isn’t safe often sits in the root chakra, which governs safety and stability. When this chakra is out of balance, we can feel like we have to keep “doing” to survive.
Creating a sacred space and practicing intentional rituals helps signal to your body and spirit that it’s safe to slow down. These practices ground you in the present moment, nourish your nervous system, and create an environment where healing and renewal can take place.

Burnout is a signal, not a failure. Spiritually, it’s an invitation to realign with your truth and to remember that rest is not only safe but deeply healing. By clearing and blessing your space, using affirmations, and leaning into rituals, you can move stuck energy, release limiting beliefs, and restore balance.
Take it from me: when your jars feel empty, it’s time to refill them. Rest, recalibrate, and remember—you are worthy of the care you give yourself.
